On September 28th, 2007 the Blue Ribbon Panel on Autism made its final trip across the state in Kansas City.  Sen. Scott T. Rupp, R-Wentzville, is the chair for the Blue Ribbon Panel regarding Autism. The meeting was held at the University of Missouri- Kansas City Administrative Center at 5115 Oak Street. As with the previous meetings, these proceedings were open to the public, with an open forum scheduled from 11:00am-1:00pm to give members of the public an opportunity to address the panel.

 

The panel heard expert testimony from insurance representatives and specialists in reimbursement.  The panel also heard from the Department of Mental Health.

 

The 16-member Blue Ribbon Panel on Autism is comprised of lawmakers, parents, doctors, and health officials. These persons are responsible for determining “the state of autism in Missouri.” Panel members have been looking at services, teaching, training and research and will make recommendations for improving the quality of life for those with autism and their families.

 

After completing the meetings, the panel will issue a report to Senate President Pro Tem Michael Gibbons, R-Kirkwood, by October 31st.
